The Greater Refuge Temple Bible Institute is an extension of the Church of Christ Bible Institute of New York City.  Its general purpose is to help develop men and women for Christian service.  This is accomplished through a program of biblical, general and professional studies.  We serve students who are able to study part-time.  Classes are held on Monday evenings.

The Christian life is a battle!  Spiritual Warfare is a reality to be faced, not a concept to be debated.

There is a warfare raging, not simply with terrorists across the globe --- but with spiritual forces for the soul of our culture, our families and our lives.  With God’s help I want to take us through a biblical boot camp to equip us to stand firm in the battle and come out on the winning end.

Saved, Now What: (Model The Life of Jesus Christ)

We base everything on the Bible and prove all by spiritual experience.  Both the study of the Word and through experience, tells us that for every spiritual experience there is a special change in our inward man.  The difference of spirit and soul as well as the difference in their functions are necessary knowledge to those who seek to grow in their spiritual life.  Only knowing what is the Spirit and what is spiritual can we walk according to the Spirit.  Because of the great lack of such teaching, this class will explain in detail how the Bible divides man into three parts:  spirit, soul and body.  This class will explore how the Holy Spirit helps us deal with DEADLY EMOTIONS.

Intercessory Prayer: (How to Effectively Pray for Others)

Intercession is not just merely interceding.  When a soldier goes out to do battle, he doesn’t just put on his uniform and go out to war.  There are things that were done prior to him stepping on the Battlefield.  In intercession, we must know our enemy as well as know who God is, then we must be dressed and prepared for battle.  This class is for those who are serious about prayer and intercession and are willing to learn the scriptural foundations for Intercession.

Maximizing Your Potential: (Developing Your Best Spiritual Self)

We all have potential but we must realize that it was given to us by God.  Once we come into the knowledge that we all have potential, we must allow God to develop, nurture and cultivate this awesome gift called POTENTIAL.  If we trust God, He will activate our POTENTIAL, so you can be your best in all that you do.  Some of the key lessons you will learn are:  Become your potential.  Guard and protect your potential from enemies, Cultivate, feed and share your potential, Recover your potential, Live within your potential and God’s purpose.

Biblical Exegesis: (Understanding Scriptural Context)

Biblical Exegesis involves many methods such as developing and understanding the immediate and remote context, background and history, usage of the original Greek and Hebrew languages and developing mechanical layouts that will allow a proper theological analysis to be completed.  This method of proper biblical exegesis will be welcomed by the serious bible students and Pastors who need solid content for their week by week task of handling the Word of God, but yet must learn some shortcuts due to extensive time demands in their lives.

Evangelism: (Reaching the Un-Reached)

In this class you will learn how to win souls for the Lord.  There are people in our family, in the workplace and our community that are in need of salvation.  You will be taught how to do step-by-step street witnessing.  The church has been entrusted with a very important command from God.  He has entrusted the believer with the ministry mantle of evangelism, which is God’s purpose and plan of harvesting souls into His Kingdom.  This class is for all those that have a desire to win souls for the Lord and bring them to the knowledge of Jesus Christ.  We must be equipped to “REACH THE UN-REACHED” for the Lord.

Sharing Our Lives As Women of God: Sis. Diane Thompson (Mentoring)

This class is designed to show that we as Women of God are often natural mentors.  I believe, however that women need leadership and encouragement in this area.  As we study God’s Word we will come to understand that we can make a great difference in the lives of other young women in church as well as society in general.

This class is intended to empower students to look closer at the Heroic efforts of various figures of the Old Testament.  It will reveal that although they lived thousands of years ago, their experiences are relevant to what we must go through as believers in the 21st Century.  The class will provide inspiration and clarity for God’s plan for your life.  You will discover that through the lives of the champions of the Old Testament that you have the ability to take modern day challenges and turn them into victory.

Singles Ministry: (The Next Dimension)

In this class we will discuss real issues facing the lives of singles as they pursue happiness during this season called Singleness.  We will expose Satan’s attacks that face today’s singles.  We will discuss how we should posture ourselves as we wait for God’s mate.  We will also explore God’s original purpose for the season of Singleness.
